Raul Serrano: Painting as Vernacular
September 20 - September 29, 2019

Kerhonkson-based Raul Serrano uses an inventive visual language that seeks mystery, poetry and a constant shift of meaning through compositions that recall Renaissance, surrealist, and post-impressionist art.

The body of work is held together by twice-removed perceptions of leitmotifs: water, glass; metaphorical and actual "currents,” swirls of tentacled sea creatures, live wires. From behind featureless spectator figures, the viewer is pulled toward dreamscapes, intense juxtapositions of incongruous objects against or within crowds and flows of bodies, human and animal. Uses of color and form create Kafkaesque challenges to the psyche, calling for visceral reaction or focused reflection.

Side by Side
Jo-Ellen Trilling & Andrew Willner
August 3 - 25, 2019

Married for decades, Andrew Willner and Jo-Ellen Trilling share a bond of creativity. They’ve traveled on different artistic tracks, but side by side; embarked in New York City and arrived in The Hudson Valley, near Rosendale.

Trilling’s paintings and dolls exemplify Magic Realism. Appearances lure and trick with bright colors but incongruous details. Whimsical, Bosch-like hybrid creatures teeter on disturbing. Winged things cling to Grimm forest trees; a live rooster hat glares from a dog doll’s head. Disquieting toys have too-round faces, and ‘steampunk’ horses advance. Strange animals peer through Alice’s looking glass.

Nautical notes and textures pervade Willner’s woodwork: An elegant, slender ‘steamer trunk’ box; seawall posts settling unevenly in sand over time. He works utilitarian pieces into waves and swells, counter-current swirls, gentle lifts and ebbs on surfaces far from shore. Willner coopers and carves fine wood, sands to fluid flows, oils it to a rich sheen.

Wired Gallery's Makers' Show featuring 20 artists and artisans
Curated by Erin von Holdt-Gilbert
May 25 - June 23, 2019
Big or small, everything surrounding us has meaning. What we wear, the cup we drink from, the quilt we sleep under - all have an impact – in our lives and the lives of the people who made them. In an ever more mass-produced world, I’ve chosen to be conscious about where the things I bring into my life come from – to create a hand crafted home. This show encapsulates a cross section of goods by over 25 of my favorite local makers – from furniture and home goods to wearables.

The Hudson Valley region has been a mecca for artists and craftsman since the days of the Hudson River School. Come see this collection of contemporary and intentional work.
---Erin von Holdt-Gilbert, curator

John Mernin: Latest Works
April 27 - May 19, 2019
For over twenty years, Johnny Mernin has been translating the intensity and passion of a life fully lived into radical color-scapes.  His work, characterized by striking balance, energetic, gestural lines, and emotional rawness, has been featured in numerous galleries across the Hudson Valley and is included in many private collections.  Though self-taught, Mernin credits the experiences he had as a young, broke traveler as ultimately being the source of his greatest teachings, because it is only through radical authenticity, humility, and fearlessness in facing the unknown that the spontaneous creative act is achieved.  This collection presents Mernin’s most recent works.  He currently lives in Woodstock, NY.

Michael Lokensgaard: Knots and Flowers
May 19 - June 3, 2018

Wired Gallery is pleased to present Michael Lokensgaard: Knots and Flowers, a solo show by the Bloomington-based artists featuring his

paintings on floral compositions as well as his more recent knot paintings and etchings.

The show marks Lokensgaard’s first solo exhibit in the Hudson Valley in nearly 30 years.

The knot paintings are a vehicle for the artist to play with intertwining forms, revealing colors that exist more in his  imagination than in reality.

His floral paintings are also arrangements of colors and forms, but applied to more familiar subjects including not only flowers, but vases, frames, tables, and so on. The result is a series of technically accomplished works expressing the character, personality, and frantic growth of familiar flowering plants.

A group show featuring 40 artists
curated by Meredith Rosier
December 2, 2017 - April 1, 2018

Participating Artists:

MARIE MASTRONARDO: A RETROSPECTIVE
A solo show of ceramic sculpture surveying the artist's 50-year career
October 28 - November 26, 2017

“Mastronardo’s figures seem to...float upward. Fragments of breast, a shoulder, a thigh, gradually free themselves from the clay form... Some of the figures are more stylized, but, seen in the context of all her work, they all flow in the same direction...”

-- Rich Corozine, Daily Freeman

Mastronardo arrived in Ulster County in November 1972 with a BA as an art major from Hunter College. She studied with Marshall Glasier, John Hovannes and “received enlightment” from Jose de Creeft.

ROBERTO AZANK: STILLS
A solo show of still lifes and other floral compositions by the New Paltz-based, Argentinean artist
September 30 - October 22, 2017
Roberto Azank’s canvases convey a sense of hyper-reality through his bold use of color, precise line and controlled composition. His rendering of common objects such as flowers, fruits and curvaceous vessels set against the background of almost fauvist bisected bold color planes is being exemplified by superb draftsmanship.

KATIE GROVE: WOVEN SPACES

August 5 - 27, 2017

A desire to observe nature closely and share what she discovers is what drives Hudson Valley artist Katie Grove. Her perceptive drawings, etchings, and mixed-media sculptures highlight the unseen and intricate details of the natural world. From meticulous drawings of the hundreds of pieces in a bird’s nest, to woven sculptures, which ask the viewer to look closer, her work has a strong sense of exploration and storytelling. She takes the perspective of a naturalist and an artist, creating pieces that aim to be both scientifically accurate and imaginative.

The work in this exhibition spans several years of her career and includes her Language of the Nest series, recent work in basketry and woven sculptures, and a selection of watercolor paintings from her Medicine Feathers collection. All are inspired by natural

ELEKTRA BUHALIS: Articulture

May 13 - June 4, 2017

Elektra, who lives in High Falls, just a few doors down from Wired Gallery, has always been drawn to depicting the natural world. She's prolific in her ability to move from contemporary subject matter to her own renditions of early American primitive, creating a hybrid of schools which she refers to as ‘articulture’- a cross between art and agriculture.

She believes that in order for us to remember who we are as a unified people, we must return to a more elemental existence, one that reveres our natural habitats and the empowering work of reclaiming the relationship to our food supply. Elektra maintains a micro permaculture homestead, keeping bees, small livestock, and growing and preserving food.

SAM TUFNELL: GNOME MOUNTAIN

Curated by Colin "Cojo" Jorgensen

April 8 - May 7, 2017

Sam Tufnell enjoys national recognition for his “Still Life Studies.” Each still life is an illuminated resin sculpture comprised of seemingly ordinary objects arranged in elaborate displays consisting of cola cans, cookie jars, piggy banks, pieces of fruit, etc. These iconic works will be the main focus of the solo exhibition at Wired Gallery.

Gnome Mountain, marks Tufnell’s first solo appearance in the Hudson Valley. The show comes on the heels of a recent exhibit of his work at Cornell Art Museum in Delray Beach Florida.
