KATHI ROBINSON FRANK: Markings
MICHAEL GOLD: Vintages
May 17 - June 8, 2025
Opening reception: Saturday, May 17, from 5 to 7 PM

Each artist presents an independent body of work, sharing the gallery space and show dates but curated as distinct solo presentations.

MARKINGS by Kathi Robinson Frank showcases her dynamic process of painting, where layers of brushwork, charcoal, pastel, fabric, and found materials build toward a visual language deeply rooted in abstract expressionism. “I draw and paint using brushes, rags, charcoal, pastel, rubbing, scraping, repainting, redrawing until I begin to find my voice,” Frank states. “It is that moment of recognition when the marks start to make sense that I begin to understand the visual language of the painting.” Her large canvases evoke themes of connection, communication, and the human struggle to stay linked in a complex world.
Frank, a New York City native and Bard College graduate, has exhibited widely, including at Provincetown Art Association, Amy Zook at 1stDibs, Berta Walker Gallery, Byrdcliffe Kleinert/James Center, and Wired Gallery. Her work has evolved from natural fiber installations to mixed-media paintings that incorporate elements from her Hudson Valley surroundings.

VINTAGES by Michael Gold presents a series of re-imagined photographs inspired by his lifelong fascination with old family photos and vintage imagery from the 1800s to 1930s. Gold, a fine arts painting major turned photographer, combines digital painting with historic photographs to create works that honor the past while forging new visual narratives. “Last year, I got the idea of combining my love of old photos… by copying and painting them with my digital brushes and palette. I re-imagined the photos I had chosen, in ways that, to my knowledge, had never been done before,” Gold explains. This exhibition is the culmination of that creative journey.
Gold’s career spans decades, with work published in The New York Times, Fortune, Esquire, and many more. He was recently invited to join Getty Images and has exhibited in over twenty solo shows, including The Camera Club of New York, Philadelphia Art Alliance, Opera News and National Lampoon.
